Budget Analyst
The City of Bryan is seeking qualified candidates for Budget Analyst. Responsibilities: - As a key part of the budget team, assists in planning and coordinating all tasks necessary to prepare and publish the City's annual budget, multi-year financial plan, interim budget and financial reports and performance measurement programs. - Prepares reports, presentation materials, and other documents intended to communicate the annual budget, interim budget reports, and other relevant information to City Council, City management and the public. - Participates in the preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report and annual audit. - Maintains a wide variety of fiscal information, files and records for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance. - Monitors account balances and related financial activity (e.g. expense report) for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed. - Processes a variety of fiscal information (e.g. journal entries, budget allocation and budget transfer requests) for the purpose of updating information and/or authorizing final action in compliance with policies and procedures. - Researches discrepancies of financial information and/or documentation (e.g. budget, account number coding) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adhering to policies and procedures. - Prepares policies and procedures related to areas of responsibility. - Performs fiscal, statistical and other studies and analysis as needed. - Provides assistance and advice to City departments in resolving budgetary issues; trains City staff on budgetary process; prepares and maintains annual budget instructions. - Provides assistance with complex governmental accounting issues and recommends efficient and effective budget and accounting strategies. - Builds and maintains positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service. - Assists with other accounting and budgeting functions and duties as required. - Responds regularly and promptly to work. Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or similar field of study plus 4-6 years of professional experience performing accounting, budget preparation, or closely related financial and/or fiscal activity; OR an Associate's Degree in a related field plus 6-8 years of experience as listed above.
